What some of our members said they get out of being a member of The Rotaract Club of Gladstone:
“It’s a chance to hang out with a really great bunch of people and also get to help out people in the community (while having a lot of fun and laughs).”
“I see it as a good opportunity to meet new people and as a platform to build upon my current personal and professional skills.”
“Gladstone doesn’t have a brewery, but Rotaract can sure organise a function!” (Editor’s note: substituted last word)
“Rotaract is like a stressball. Once a week you meet up with a group of like-minded randoms for a drink or two and a chat. We discuss items on the agenda and might get sidetracked…but at the end of it, we have achieved something.”
What you get out of it is up to you. There are so many opportunities: developing leadership skills, professional networking, dressing up in strange costumes in public, connecting with other Rotaractors internationally, and just that getting that warm fuzzy from giving something back. We’d love to have you on board.
Ok, how do I join?
This is the easy part.
Come along to three meetings, and decide that you want to join the crew.
Complete a membership form (ask the Prez).
Have your membership request approved by the Committee, who (hopefully) by now will have worked out whether our Club would suit you.
Pay the membership fee: currently a measly $30 per annum, which goes towards Club expenses. It also gets you voting rights, a nice certificate, and a snazzy membership pin.
You sound real nice and all, but…
I don’t have enough time to get involved.
Our members are professionals, workers, and students, and also have busy lives. As the saying goes, if you want a job done, give it to a busy person. The vast majority of our meetings are finished in less than an hour, and we understand that not everyone can always come to every meeting (although we aim for at least 60% attendance to ‘stay in the loop’). Our weekends are precious to us too, which is why we try to involve ourselves in projects that hold our interest, are relevant to us, and are fun.
I’m only in Gladstone for a short time.
You can either remain oblivious to the community you’ll temporarily be living in, or engage with and contribute to it. The choice is yours.
I am too good-looking for a community service organisation.
Our members are abnormally attractive people.
I can’t commit to your meeting times
If Thursday nights are out, come join us for one of our Friday socials. Failing that, we can always use your support at any of our functions or events, and these are usually held on weekends.

I’m still not sure this is for me.
