All proceeds raised will be divided between the Gladstone Hospital Palliative Care Ward, and the Rotary Polio Plus campaign.

The raffle winner for the framed Broncos jersey will be drawn on October 27th – stay tuned.

This success was due to the great effort put in by Rotaractors, many going above and beyond the call of duty and the continued support of the Rotary clubs, which without their support, Oktoberfest would struggle to be as successful as it is.

In the wash-up from Oktoberfest 2010, to go with the overwhelming sense of relief, also came some reflection. Looking at what helped to the overall vibe of the event, and what areas can we still improve on and develop for next year.

Suggestions came from many areas, and more feedback is most welcome, be it good or bad. The feedback so far:

1. The Music

Congrats to Alicia for organising typical musicians to conform to our requirements. The live music/pub-style music was a big hit with the drinkers. Some people did comment on the lack of German themed music, and for next year, we will look at getting the Municipal band to return to the Oompah-styled music at the start of the event.

2. Range of beer

Cheers goes to Chris, Shaun and Neil (who actually shed some blood for the cause) for organising the beer for the event. This years selection was the biggest so far, and the crowd appreciated the cross section that was available. The challenge, as it has been every year, is measuring the crowd number and tastes to the quantities of beer. This will again, be the challenge for 2011 but we have some well seasoned Veterans to take on this task.

3. Co-ordination of Rotarian support

This was again identified as a key component to Oktoberfest due the size of the event. The support that we received in the form of both eskies, cool room, and helpers on the night was great. The challenge will be in utilizing and maximising this help.

4. Ticket price

This was a major change from previous years, and a response to last year’s downturn in attendance. The stubby coolers (Seb & Jody can take credit for them) were a crowd favourite, and will help in the promotion of our Rotaract club well after the event. Steins, while popular, were an issue regarding the liquor licence, but will be looked into making a return for next year, depending on the liquor licence feedback.

On a final note, we raised a total of $13, 584.91. As a group, we have decided to give $5,000 to the Exodus Tutorial Centre, $1,000 to the Shelter Box Australia, and $300 to the Port Curtis Rotary Club (to complete their donation for another Shelter box). This year we have decided to try something new, and we’ll keep a portion of the money for the Rotaract Christmas Club rainy day fund. This money will be used at Christmas time when people are in need. In past years we have not been able to support Christmas appeals due to lack of funds. This year we aim to change that and be able to support local people at Christmas when they need the joys of the festive season.
